Buoyant cricket team departs for Kenya

Botswana is fresh from a victorious run in the Africa Cricket Association T20 South Central region qualifiers featuring Mozambique, Malawi, Mauritius, and Eswatini. But now the team will face a stern challenge as they flew out to Kenya today to play in the Four Nations Continent Cup. Botswana will face a formidable East African line-up of Kenya, Rwanda, and Uganda. Nigeria and Tanzania were due to participate but withdrew. The first match is against Uganda on Friday, with the final schedule for June 21. The tournament will be played in a double round-robin format.
Captain Karabo Motlhanka said they welcome the challenge after their victory in SA. "The expectations are that at the very least we keep up the standards that we have set for ourselves and continue to go through the processes that we have trusted thus far," he said. "We are aware that we are going to face a different type of challenge in Nairobi which will require an improvement on what we're doing as well as a certain level of consistency. If we do that then we will truly show ourselves to be on the right path which might lead to an upset or two in the tournament," he added.
Coach Joseph Angara said it is another opportunity to push their game a notch up against quality opposition. "It's another high level and a good challenge for us. We will take it one game at a time. The boys are in good morale from Benoni. We just need to carry on with the same consistency from the southern region ACA T20," Angara said.
