Former Notwane coach, Kakale Mabechu has also joined the club as the new women’s head coach on an interim basis from the development structures. The two coaches’ arrival see Morapedi and Kgomela head for the exit door.

The duo is expected to part ways with GU on May 31, 2023. The veteran tacticians' contract will expire at the end of the current campaign and the club has opted against a renewal. “Both Kgomela and Morapedi’s contracts are elapsing come end of May and we have no plans to renew them. So yes, they won't be there next season with the team,” GU’s communication and marketing manager, Herbert Letsebe told Mmegi Sport.

He said Butler’s primary duties is to oversee all the football structures at the club while Mabechu will solely focus on training the women’s team. Morapedi joined the Reds in the 2021/2022 as the head coach and guided the team to a season double. He was instrumental in GU’s first league triumph in 13 years while he has also won two Orange FA Cup titles with the team.

Morapedi relinquished his head coaching duties and was appointed the technical advisor and also oversaw the women’s team. Kgomela on the other end, penned a one-year contract with GU as the head coach. He has held the technical director role since February after the promotion of Pontsho Moloi as a head coach. Kgomela led the team in the CAF Champions League adventure early in the season. In the meantime, Letsebe dismissed reports that the club is set for a further shake up of the technical team.

Butler’s arrival at the club raised speculation that he will take over the head coach duties from Moloi. “I do not see any addition soon; this is just technical changes within the team.

We are just moving coaches from the development structures. Mabechu was mainly coaching the Under-19 and we have coaches who will be moved up to fill his position. So I do not see any additions or subtractions any time soon,” Letsebe.

He was full of praise of the two appointees as he said the new tacticians would add significant value to the club. “Mabechu has vast experience with the youth, he is not new, he has been in the structures. He once coached the women’s team and he has always been there. So him working along Butler will help the club and the coaches themselves to develop and grow,” Letsebe said.
