Botswana has embarked on a solo bid after co-partner, Namibia pulled out at the last minute. Instead of following the Namibia route, Botswana officially put forward a solo bid, last month, when nominations closed.

The deadline for the submission of a bid book, which was initially estimated at P65million, was today, and Mamelodi told Mmegi Sport, the document had been delivered in Cairo, the CAF headquarters. "Botswana 2027 (bid) firmly registered at CAF HQ (headquarters)," Mamelodi briefly said. CAF will have to choose from Algeria, Botswana, Egypt and a joint East African bid of Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.

Zambia, Senegal and Namibia were the countries to abandon plans to host the 36th edition of the biennial competition. Between June 1 and July 15, the CAF committee will visiting the bidding nations, while a decision on the winning bid will be taken on August 15.
