The Goshwe-born entrepreneur and founder of Tumie Makeover says he ventured into beauty therapy and hairdo to follow in his mum's footsteps. He told Arts & Culture that from a very young age, he used to play with dolls and liked keeping neat.

Since his mother is also a hair dresser, he explained that he got inspired and loved her work so much because she did it wholeheartedly. Batshani’s work is very attractive and has thus attracted a number of customers.

His said he believes that his advantage is because he is a man as such he has attracted female customers who believe they are in good hands when seeking a make-over from him. “They know that men perfect what they do and because of that I get a lot of appointments and even positive feedback. My target market is mostly the youth but everyone is welcome.

I target the youth mostly because they have competition and they challenge me with new ideas hence motivating me. Most of the time I work from home but sometimes I do house calls,” he said.

However, he said his job was very challenging and needed enthusiasm and creativity for one to excel. Since his main objective is to impress his clients, he said he was open to learn new things and challenge himself to do better than others in the same profession. He said the profession is very rewarding. “My job is paying well.

I also get positive feedback from clients, which means I am good at what I do. I would like to see my business grow in the next few years and would like to have my own premises. I would also like to have a few people working for me as well,’ he said. His advice to fellow beauticians is for them to remain strong, motivated, have determination and not to give up. He said they must work hard to make profit, be kind to clients, adding that customer satisfaction was key.
