‘Roses in December’, a 60-minute drama comedy, revolves around the Mogami family secrets that had been lying dormant for years but were revealed when the family was brought together by their father’s sudden massive stroke.

The film begins with the father suffering from a stroke. The stroke renders him paralysed and unable to speak. His wife, Beauty, takes it upon herself to call their estranged step-children, Bantle, Kagiso and Tebogo because she fears her husband might die. The siblings are reluctant to go back home because they too have their own life problems.

They eventually go home so as to put their differences aside and live together in the same house. Dirty secrets are exposed during their visit when their childhood traumas begin to haunt them.

Speaking at the premiere, the film producer from Torch Studios, Otsetswe Sedimo said their dream is to grow the local film industry by producing more films which would ultimately sell the Botswana story. “When Torch studio was established eight years ago, the aim was to have nights like these, a whole cinema filled with families and friends to watch our stories told by us for us.

Watching this film, you will get to appreciate the real diamonds of Botswana, the talent from both crew and cast, that worked together to bring this master piece for your entertainment,” he said. ‘Roses in December’ premiered at New Capitol Cinemas in Riverwalk filling up the over 200 cinema capacity. The star-studded event brought together seasoned actors, local celebrities, family and friends who came to support the cast and crew. The movie received a standing ovation as many enjoyed the storyline citing a relatable story and which was authentically Botswana.
