It was around 3:30am when the whole street experienced a blackout and residents contacted the police as they suspected it was not an ordinary load shedding.

Local police in the village reacted to the report and arrested four men aged between 24 and 30 who later directed the police to the other suspect who had just suffered an electric shock and was injured.

Tlokweng Police Station commander, Superintendent Unoziba Rari confirmed the injured suspect was taken to Princess Marina Referral Hospital where he is currently fighting for his life as he sustained serious wounds all over his body.

“The other suspects are in police custody for investigations. Cable theft remains a concern as we are overwhelmed by reports of vandalism and electricity cable theft in our policing area, especially in Tlokweng and Modipane,” Rari said. Rari pleaded with members of the public to refrain from stealing cables warning them of the dangers that electricity can pose.
