Even though he did not have detailed statistics Machaneng Police Station commander, Superintendent Gagopale Gaselarona said they are investigating cases of defilement in which a 12-year-old girl and a 17-year-old girl were defiled in Serafhe and Chadibe villages respectively last week.

“Cases of defilement remain a concern in our policing area. Every week we record two to three cases of defilement with the perpetrators being mature, older men who had proposed a relationship to the minors,” Gaselarona said.

“Some girls are left pregnant and it is a sad thing to happen to a girl-child.

It concerns us because these cases continue to occur despite our efforts to sensitise men about defilement and other sexual offences.” Meanwhile, Gaselarona said they are investigating yet another case in which a mentally disturbed woman aged 39 was raped in Machaneng village over the weekend.
