No2 District officer commanding, Senior Superintendent Paul Oketsang said the deceased was in the company of her husband and her niece. The companions were also on the roadside attending to their car that had a breakdown when she met her death.

Meanwhile, the police chief said they are investigating another serious accident in which a 26-year-old driver of a Toyota RunX hit a horse and trailer truck from behind.

The driver then lost control of the car, and veered off the road near Morupule Mine along Serowe/Palapye Road on Saturday night.

Oketsang said the accident occurred at around 3:05am and one of the passengers sustained serious head injuries and was later referred to Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital where he is currently fighting for his life.

“The car had four people on board, three passengers plus the driver, and they escaped the accident uninjured. The driver was tested and he had alcohol above the limit hence will be charged,” he said. “Alcohol-related crashes that mostly occur in the early hours of the morning remain a concern and we continue to lose lives. This attitude that drivers continue to display increases their exposure to road accidents and casualty rates.”
