CAF confirmed today that it has received a declaration of interest from six countries in the bidding process to select the host nation for the 2027 tournament.

"At the expiry of the deadline set by the administration, CAF recorded four bids from six countries.

The bidding nations are (in alphabetic order): Algeria, Botswana, Egypt and Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania (Joint Bid)," CAF indicated on its website.

The continental mother body said the next step will be the submission of the final bid on May 23, which will include all bidding and hosting documents. These required documents are the hosting agreement, host cities agreement, and government guarantees, among others, which CAF said should be duly signed.

The inspection of bidding countries will take place between June 1 and July 15 while CAF has not decided on the date to announce the bid winners.

With Botswana's decision to proceed with solo hosting, the budget is expected to balloon after Namibia decided to withdraw from the joint bid.

The neighbouring country indicated the P4.2 billion budget required to upgrade facilities was too steep.
