Concerns of match-fixing emerged after an audio, featuring the voices believed to be those of referee, Joshua Bondo and BFA official, Monnakgotla Mojaki was leaked recently.

The Ministry of Youth, Sport, Gender and Culture as well as the Botswana National Sport Commission (BNSC) urged the BFA to get to the bottom of the matter. The BFA had prior, promised to investigate the matter.

Today, the association released a statement, indicating it has appointed a three-man team to probe the damning allegations. However, the BFA did not disclose the names of the investigating team but promised it has integrity. “We have appointed a three-man investigatory committee to probe and investigate the widely circulated audio clip attributed to the two BFA officials,” the BFA stated. “The committee is independent with varied experiences from football, legal and business sector, respectively.

The committee is expected to deliver a preliminary report within 10 days,” the association added. Further, the BFA reiterated that “football must always be played within the highest spirit of fairness and integrity underpinned by ethical conduct at all times. We humbly reassure the public and all our stakeholders, including the media of our commitment to this spirit.”
