According to Letlhakane Police Station Commander, Superintendent Michael Maphephu, they have arrested three males aged between 18 and 26 years in connection to defiling the teenage girls.

He said that they recorded four cases of defilement in which three suspects were arrested and one is still at large. He said all the victims, 17, were brought in by their parents to their police station after spending their nights out with their ‘boyfriends’. “The victims are reported to have spent nights out at the suspects' houses on different occasions, but upon arrival at home, one of the parents took their child to the police station,” he added. Maphephu stated that the incidents took place between April 7 and 9 at Khwee settlement and Letlhakane village respectively.

He has applauded the parents for taking a step in reporting such cases, something which was not common in their policing area. He attributed the step to the encouragement of the public on the benefits of reporting such cases.

The Letlhakane police boss stated that they have been conducting campaigns geared at arresting the situation. Meanwhile, Maphephu said that they have detained a 76-year-old man for allegedly defiling his eight-year-old step-granddaughter in Khwee settlement.
