This was revealed by the Tonota police acting station commander, Assistant Superintendent Keogotsitse Rasina who raised concern over the alarming cases of GBV-related cases, stressing that interventions need to be made urgently.

He said that so far, they registered seven cases of common assaults by couples between Friday and Saturday. Rasina stated that the same fights resulted in physical harm and threats amongst the couples.

Rasina indicated that the incidents took place in Tonota West, Mandunyane, and Semotswane. According to the acting station head, women were reported to be victims of domestic violence and all of them were cohabitating with the suspects.

He feared that most of the common assault cases amongst couples often aggravate serious offences such as murder.

In order to addressthe GBV cases, Rasina stated revealed they have started a community outreach programme led by five police officers to educate individuals on GBV.
