When addressing the media today about his successes since he took over for the past five years, Masisi said his party and government have achieved a lot. This was the first address that Masisi did since the COVID-19 pandemic about the state of the party and other issues.

“I challenge the former president to come back and work hard for the opposition parties. We are going to win big in the coming elections. I will sort him out as he has never been before. At times I get embarrassed with what my former president says because he was also the president of this country,” Masisi said.

He further said all that Khama is saying is because of the bitterness that he had fired him from the BDP before he claimed to have resigned.

On other issues, Masisi denied allegations that he wants another Vice President apart from Slumber Tsogwane. In that regard, President Masisi said he in fact gets along with Tsogwane despite him not being friends.

He said he has never planned with anyone or held any meetings with his Cabinet to replace or choose anyone to take over from Tsogwane.

He continued: “Even if I may die today or not, Tsogwane is going to be my President. He is a hard worker and I know the person who is spreading such untruths. I work with him and we respect each other. There is no vacancy for Vice Presidency.”

On the ongoing issue concerning Member of Parliament Unity Dow and ruling party Chief Whip Likiat Kablay, Masisi said he is not going to comment on the matter that is still before the disciplinary committee.

He said it is not their norm as the BDP to talk about matters before the sub-committees as they take it like their court. He said, he would not be found to be interfering or commenting as he wants the committee to make its own findings and recommendations that are independent and the findings will be shared.

He said the BDP has procedures that need to be followed by anyone.

Kablay had written to the party disciplinary sub-committee that Dow has gone against the party caucus and continued to tarnish the party’s image on social media. Mmegi has learnt that some members are pushing the leadership to suspend Dow from the party because they feel that her actions are tarnishing the party’s image.

The latest standoff between Dow and her party came after she refused to replace Kgosi Mosadi Seboko at the Pan-African Parliament. Currently, Dow’s response which is all over social media has attracted debate within her party as some believe that the MP has crossed the line by allegedly leaking the letter to social media while the case was still before the disciplinary committee.

Dow on the other hand denies that her actions or behaviour is bringing the party’s name into disrepute in her written response. She indicated that her conduct was motivated by a desire to right a wrong and give the Speaker an opportunity to correct an error. She further pointed out that such can only enhance the party’s reputation.
