Tutume Police Station commander, Superintendent Lesego Kgosiemang told The Monitor that the deceased was found by one of his children hanging from the rafters of his room.

“The deceased allegedly used a rope to hang himself. According to other family members, the deceased did not show any signs of being emotionally unstable or signs of someone capable of committing suicide.”

Kgosiemang expressed concern about rising suicide cases within their policing area.

This is the second incident involving an elderly person committing suicide in almost a month in Tutume. In February, a 57-year-old man of Selolwane ward hanged himself after being accused of abusing his 12-year-old granddaughter. The police did not specify the nature of abuse suffered by the 12-year-old.
