The youngster referred to ‘as Dipompi’ in a trending video, was attacked by a crocodile whilst swimming with friends in the Chobe River near Bush Track Lodge on February 25.

It is alleged that the boy sustained injuries to the head, neck, right side of the shoulder and hand after the monster crocodile attack. Kazungula Police Station commander, Superintendent Phetogo Phillimon told The Monitor the boy is out of danger and was discharged from the hospital. He said the Kazungula Primary School Standard 6 pupil only sustained crocodile attack injuries, but his body is still intact and in a stable condition. Phillimon stated that the survivor will continue with his treatment at home.

A week ago, the heroics of a Kazungula woman made headlines for saving the boy's life. The brave woman was applauded by many for having a lioness heart when rescuing the boy from certain death with a bite to the crocodile’s nose while wrestling the creator with her bare hands.

Earlier, when speaking about what transpired, Phillimon said the reporter of the incident, the woman aged 54, said she left her homestead the same afternoon to go fishing at the river. Furthermore, he said that the woman was accompanied by her eight-year-old grandson who was joined by three other young boys from her neighbour’s yard, including the victim.

According to the Kazungula station commander, the woman indicated she lost sight of the children whilst fishing. She then came to the conclusion that they went swimming which is an activity they do whilst out fishing, he stated. “It was after 30 minutes that the 54-year-old woman heard the victim screaming and she rushed to them.

She found the 12-year-old boy caught by a crocodile and they started throwing stones to rescue the victim but their efforts were fruitless,” he added. Phillimon elaborated that after failing to rescue the boy by throwing stones, the woman then went into the water and grabbed the crocodile, biting it on its nose. The animal let go of the boy.

The victim sustained injuries and some of the members of the community came to assist and took the victim to the hospital. He stated that this is the first incident of its kind in his policing area since the beginning of the year.
