The event is hosted by Cellar Door Arts and Alliance Française featuring Prince Tom.

In an interview with Arts & Culture, Prince Tom said he would be at the event as the guest artist, coordinating the painting programme. Even though they did last minute advertisement, Prince Tom said there is a lot of excitement about the event. He said they are getting numerous requests to also include for non-alcoholic beverages, which shows just how ecstatic people were to be sharing a painting session with him.

“The partnership between me and the Alliance Française has just started as we also launched a programme of painting classes for both kids and adults every Saturday from 10am-12noon. Client only pays P950 and all material supplied to them. All these activities are really helping me to be always engaged in something and also helping me promote my upcoming solo exhibition that will be held at Masa (CBD) titled OSHIMA,” he said.

He explained that this platform also helps him to showcase his skill and talent before a large audience, saying this would get more people to appreciate the beauty of art. He said it is not the first time he hosted a ‘Sip ‘N’ Paint’ event after he facilitated one for FNBB last year. He pointed out that it is through these events that he gets to meet potential clients.

Prince Tom added that ‘Sip ‘N’ Paint’ was a great way for people to interact with one another on a more relaxed atmosphere. He described art as good for therapy. He said these days the world is sad and depressed, so art is a good way to keep people’s minds engaged with something positive.

“Even science has proved that art really helps with therapy. Colour has been known to trigger some parts of the brain that bring about positive thoughts, so it is very vital that people come for these kinds of events. I have also done a live painting session last year at Avani during the DGB wine show, where I was painting two models in a style I like to refer to as ‘body art’ and it also got people contacting me, asking when more such events are coming. I think Batswana are really craving for such chilled art events,” he ended.
