Police indiscipline troubles Mmusi

Mmusi, troubled by his charges, shared his worries when officiating at the ongoing 49th Botswana Police Senior Officers annual conference at the Special Support Group Band Wing Hall this afternoon. "The biggest challenge we have is indiscipline amongst police officers. I have observed that there is a lot of indiscipline but we are a disciplined force and we have to behave as such. "Let's stand up and enforce discipline. I expect you from here to do so to your subordinates. Some police officers do not respect or recognise the Botswana flag, something that as a police officer should be their number one priority. We need to empower our officers with resources but we cannot empower people who are not disciplined," he said.
He added that the only way the service can achieve its goals towards fighting crime is when they have disciplined officers. "Recently when addressing a kgotla meeting I was told that a police officer was assaulted by members of the public, if an officer could be beaten by a civilian, it shows that people are not safe at all.
However, I think that the officer is not well trained or such people may be aware of his weaknesses which is not okay," Mmusi said.
