Senior police officers meet

The purpose of the annual meeting is to review and adopt new strategies that would facilitate effective policing for the Botswana Police Service (BPS) and its partners.
According to the BPS deputy public relations officer, Senior Superintendent Near Bagali, this year's theme is 'Modern Policing; New Realities Towards Safe and Secure Communities'.
Minister of Defence and Security Kagiso Mmusi, who has been working closely with departments under his docket, especially the BPS, the Botswana Defence Force, and the Botswana Prison Service, will officially open the conference.
At last year’s conference, a visibly infuriated Minister Mmusi instructed his charges to shoot and kill criminals that blasted ATMs and cash-in-transit robbers that wreaked havoc in the country paralysing the movement of cash.
Just last week, Minister Mmusi was elated when he explained to Parliament that ATM-blasting and cash-in-transit heists were in total control now, with no freshly reported cases.
Suspended substantive police commissioner, Keabetswe Makgophe will be missing in action at the conference as he is facing charges of aiding and abetting unlawful firearm possession.
On the other hand, the acting police commissioner, Phemelo Ramakorwane will perform welcome remarks at the conference where he is expected to articulate pertinent policing and strategy formulation issues.
The Senior Officers’ Conference amongst others helps the police to periodically interrogate their policing tactics and improve their relationship with their partners.
