Botswana Police Service (BPS) Public Relations Officer, Senior Superintendent Near Bagali stated in a media release that Bobonong police arrested four Batswana men aged between 31 and 42 on Thursday for obtaining by false pretences.

“The quartet, two men from Old Naledi in Gaborone, one from Kopong, and the other from Francistown, are suspected to be part of a syndicate that has been going around defrauding people of cash masquerading as police officers who are investigating some cases of stolen money,” Bagali said.

Bagali said the suspects allegedly produced fake police identity cards and demanded banking cards and personal PINs from the victim. He said the suspects were arrested after having withdrawn P20,000.

He, however, said the police managed to recover over P14,000 of the money believed to be proceeds of the same crime. The suspects will appear before Bobonong Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
