According to Tutume Police Station commander, Lesego Kgosiemang, the drowning incident took place last Thursday at Sebina village.

He said the two boys from Nzinda ward were buddies doing Standard Five together adding they had alerted their families that they would be out to play.

Kgosiemang indicated that a 23-year-old passerby, who was walking from Matenge village to Sebina, reported the drowning to the police. “The 23-year-old man reported that whilst taking a shortcut to Sebina he saw something floating in the river. When he approached the object he saw that it was a boy, and then he removed the motionless body from the waters,” the station head added.

He said the passerby then rushed to report the matter to the police station. Furthermore, it is alleged when the police arrived at the scene, they spotted clothes by the riverbank and suspected that there were two boys at the time. Kgosiemang indicated that then the police searched and found another body of a child just a few metres away from where the first one was spotted.

He said the two boys were then sent to the clinic where they were certified dead. The Tutume Police Station commander cautioned parents to ensure that their children do not engage in swimming unsupervised and urged them to take care of their young ones during the rainy seasons. .
