Divisional Traffic Officer for South Central, Assistant Commissioner Reginald Matlhaba told The Monitor that the rapidly growing trend is worrying and largely to blame for the fatalities recorded almost daily.

He stated that most of young drivers in the Greater Gaborone are unlicensed and seem not to be bothered by that even though it is an offence.

"We continue to see the rise in road users driving without a licence in Greater Gaborone and this concerns us because despite that being against the law these are drivers who are usually behind most of the road accidents some of which result in road fatalities. It looks like these days cars are affordable hence easy for more young people to drive unlicensed," he said.

Matlhaba said services are available for one to acquire a licence at the Department of Road Transport hence he pleaded with young people to take advantage of them.
