According to a document from the Gaborone District Labour Office signed by representatives of the union and the University of Botswana (UB) yesterday (Thursday). The industrial action will begin from February 6 to 10.

“The union will apply the 'no pay no work' rule. It warrants that the union members on strike shall not be obliged to teach, supervise, research, reinstate laboratory sessions, learning management systems sessions, or any teaching and learning components, and any support systems associated therewith constituting the curriculum that would have been missed during the strike and such learning content shall remain forfeited,” reads documents from the labour office.

The University of Botswana Staff Union (UBSU) in alliance with UBASSU in November handed over a petition to the Minister of Education and Skills Development Dr Douglas Letsholathebe. During the handing over of the petition, the unions said in the petition the unions were asking for a 15% pay increase across the board effective from April, or 7.5 percent plus incorporation of allowances into the basic salary if the 15% is too steep.

This comes after the two unions boycotted the 2022 examinations and the university's 40th-anniversary celebrations.
