There were some reported discrepancies and complaints during their Kweneng councillors caucus, a development which the BDP admitted.

According a letter written by 16 BDP councillors dated January 27, 2023 they have lost trust and confidence in their regional leadership and plead with the party leadership to dissolve the committee.

“We appreciate the decision by the BDP leadership for the re-run of the BDP election that was held on January 23, 2023, after we registered our displeasure (election rigging).

This shows the visionary and progressive leadership that BDP has. On the same note, we would like to officially register a complaint on what transpired regarding these elections,” says the letter.

The letter says the election was conducted by Kweneng west region leadership and as the members of the same region and councillors, they found that totally disturbing.

The concerned councillors said they are considering the fact that other involved parties are BDP Political Education and Elections Committee (PEEC), including those who were sent by BDP leadership to observe and guide the proceedings.

They said as a result the culprits dragged the party name in the mud. The concerned councillors said they have been watching helplessly the reports from social media, newspapers, opposition parties and Batswana in general hence their intervention in the matter would be highly appreciated.

In an interview with one of the concerned councillors who did not want to be named for the fear of being victimization, the councillor said this is very worrisome because those who are in PEEC could easily influence the outcome of Bulela-Ditswe or help in rigging elections.

“PEEC members are supposed to be credible and trusted by members. We are worried that some members of the committee are starting to play dirty trying to favour their friends. It is difficult to trust them after they showed us what they are capable of. In fact, the party should take action or suspend those members,” said the councillor. However, the BDP secretary general Kario said he has not seen the said letter.

“May be they have delivered the letter at our office. I will ask if indeed the letter has been delivered or not,” he said.
