Tutume station commander Superintendent Lesego Kgosiemang told MmegiOnline that the elderly woman who was reported missing was found dead by her 43-year-old son.

He said that on January 29,2023 they received a report from a 43-year-old man that his mother had disappeared without a trace and left her phone.behind.

Kgosiemang stated that the complainant reported that he last saw his mother on January 24 when he left for work in Francistown.

“Upon returning from work on January 29,he was surprised to not find his mother at home, whereas her phone was just lying around. He then suspected that his 73-year-old mother might have left for their lands four kilometres from their ward. Before departing to the lands in an attempt to search for her,the complainant passed by the police station to report a possible missing person,” he added.

It is alleged that 30 minutes later ,the complainant called the police officers informing them that he had found his mother lying lifeless at their lands.

He said the body of the deceased person was in a bad state which shows that she was probably had been dead for days.

He said that they suspected that the elderly woman was murdered because there were clear indications that she struggled before she took her last breath.

Kgosiemang shared that they are still awaiting post-mortem results which will prove if their suspicions were right or not. He was concerned about alarming murder incidents in his policing area.

Meanwhile Kgosiemang indicated that they have recorded four cases in January this year as compared to two registered last year.

Tutume station commander said in most of the cases the suspects are still lat arge and suspected to be illegal immigrants.

He said that most residents in their policing area have a tendency of harbouring illegal immigrants because of cheap labour and such people in most instances commit crime in the area and vanish and remain untraceable.

Therefore, he encouraged the residents in their policing areas to hire people with legal personal documents.

To combat the crime in their area,Kgosiemang stated that they always mount operations and end up nabbing illegal immigrants and those harbouring them.
