According to the police, residents of the once great neighbourhoods are now living in fear of criminals who also use violence in the process to rob victims. No 3 Officer Commanding, Senior Superintendent Theriso Thatayotlhe said thieves are having a field day breaking into people’s homes, thereby turning these areas into home invasion hot spots.

He stated that usually the criminals break into people’s dwellings at night, attack the owners while they are asleep and then take their valuables mainly cash, laptops, mobile phones and other gadgets.

“We continue to register isolated cases of home invasion in Tsholofelo East and Phakalane with these criminals now poisoning dogs, destroying armed electric fences to gain entry. They usually target houses with aluminium windows, because the glasses appear to be easy to remove from the window frame,” he said. Thatayotlhe revealed that the thieves usually use violence and force their victims to transfer money to them.
