When it comes to our culture here in Botswana, we all know that no one has as much power as the one commanding the pots at the magadi ko gae, Christmas lunch or any significant family gathering.

As such, DStv has announced that HONEY TV will be launching My Botswana Plate — a cooking entertainment show hosted by a young Motswana foodie and cook, Rachel Tlagae, known in the show as Chef Rachel.

The show premieres on the February 11, 2023 at 16:30 on DStv 173. “One of the commitments we made as a business when we began operating in Botswana is to strive to have content that is local to Botswana. We’ve done this in the past with shows such as Date My Family Botswana in 2019, and over the years we’ve worked tirelessly to expand on this and do more not only for our DStv Botswana viewers but to also showcase Botswana’s talent across Africa,” says MultiChoice Managing Director, Stephanie Pillay. “The launch of My Botswana Plate is a huge milestone for us as through this show we are able to showcase such a beautiful element of the culture of Botswana through the works of one of our own.

This will truly open up Botswana to the rest of the continent.” Rachel was selected amongst various other local food influencers, cooks and chefs, from Botswana to host this exciting cooking show.

HONEY TV is a pan-African lifestyle channel that’s available on the DStv Premium, Compact Plus and Compact packages. Over 13 episodes running for over two months, My Botswana Plate is set to showcase traditional Setswana meals with a new-age twist. DStv subscribers across Africa will get to watch Chef Rachel prepare some of Botswana’s staple meals such as seswaa, bogobe jwa lerotse, diSweets and more. Speaking on her experience of being part of this historical moment for the local creative and cultural landscape, Rachel had this to say: “It’s such a surreal feeling to be part of something this big, not only for me but for Botswana! I remain completely grateful and humbled by the opportunity to put my beautiful country on the map with something so simple yet so special to me- the love of food.” Each episode of My Botswana Plate is themed according to different significant aspects of Setswana culture and traditions from both the old school to the new school.
