Letlhakane Police Station Commander, Superintendent Michael Maphephu has appealed to farmers in his policing area who have lost their goats to come forward.

He said over the weekend his office found 20 suspected stolen goats with a market value of about P20,000 in an abandoned in a kraal.

He said they suspected that the goats were stolen and kept in the kraal. Maphephu indicated that upon opening an investigation about the suspected stolen and abandoned goats, they learnt that they were linked to two unknown men.

Therefore, he said that they have launched a man hunt for the suspects. He was concerned about the alarming rate of stolen livestock more especially goats and cows. Maphephu said there was clear evidence that people steal livestock and kill such in order to sell. "When patrolling in the outskirt of Letlhakane village, there was evidence of cow hides, heels and heads," added the Letlhakane police boss.

He said this proves that there is a market for goat and beef meat products. He disclosed they are going to launch an operation, which will specially target livestock theft in order to combat the alarming crime in the area. Maphephu called on the farmers to look after their livestock especially in grazing areas in order to curb the crime.
