Nsoso, who was on sick leave, was served with a letter on Wednesday this week. Nsoso is BUAN's Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Research.

“It is true the suspension letter was delivered to my house. There is no show cause in that letter except that I am suspended with immediate effect. I am still shocked by the developments since they happened while still on sick leave.

I hope they will call me and explain the reasons for their action or I will watch the developments as they unfold,” Nsoso said in an interview on Thursday.

He said as far as he is concerned there is no issue that could have led to his suspension as he has a good relationship with members of the council. He said he suspects that the decision was taken this week and it might have been taken by the executive members of the board. What worries the Deputy Vice Chancellor is that he is not served with any charge or told to show cause why.

Nsoso said he would act after having been given a letter that shows exactly what he is alleged to have done that led to his suspension. The suspended Deputy Vice Chancellor said he would wait for the due process of the council to finish. However, Mmegi has learnt that one of the reasons that led to Nsoso's suspension is the fact that he is alleged to have taken the university to court.

“Nsoso was the acting Vice Chancellor for the university after the former university Vice Chancellor Dr Jasper Rees resigned early last year. He applied for the position after the vacancy was advertised but he was never called for an interview. We understand he then took the matter up. This did not go down well with the council. We suspect this is one of the reasons behind his suspension.

Again some within the executive committee for the university council claimed that he was not working well with Professor Ketlhatlogile Mosepele who is the current Vice Chancellor,” a source within BUAN council said. According to a memorandum written by BUAN Council chairperson Neo Moroka, “the University community is informed that the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic Affairs and Research, Professor Nsoso has been suspended from duty with immediate effect.

In view of the above, Professor Othusitse Madibela has been appointed the acting deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic Affairs and Research until further notice.” Efforts to get a comment from Moroka were not successful as he was not answering his phone at the time of gong to press.
