Maseko was a renowned human rights activist lawyer and multi stakeholder forum chairperson. The Swati comrade was a fearless advocate for political and constitutional reforms that were to lead to a constitutional democracy. Around 2014, Maseko was imprisoned for two years for his human rights activism by King Mswati's government and was released after an international campaign. T

his time around, Maseko was billed to participate live on Swaziland News dialogue on Sunday 22nd January 2023 on the state of eSwatini and 2023 Tinkhundla elections. It is this advocacy and lobbying for democratic reforms and social justice that led to his ultimate demise at the hands of the brutal regime.

The regime continues to terrorise its citizens through extra judicial killings for calling for constitutional democracy. On 21st June 2021, the army opened fire on demonstrators and killed an estimated 100 citizens and yet SADC and African Union (AU) remained silent on such grave atrocity. SADC has been an embarrassment to the region and the world by failing to promote democracy amongst the member states and instead tolerating anarchy.

SADC and AU must rise to the occasion and impose sanctions on the monarchy, otherwise the people of eSwatini must step up their campaign against this feudal and backward regime. SADC citizens must unite and offer solidarity in the region. Victory is certain.

The BNF president, Central Committee and general membership send their heartfelt condolences to the Maseko wife, family members and eSwatini citizens.
