Gunners’ vice chairperson, Bonno Ngwamotsoko said they expect the former Township Rollers coach to get the 15th placed team out of the relegation zone. Motang signed a short-term deal until the end of the season.

“We have appointed Thabo Motang as the head coach for the club, and we expect him to get the team out of the relegation zone, and his appointment is for this season,” Ngwamotsoko said. “

We shall decide when the season ends if we shall continue with Motang on to the next season, and we do hope he gets us out of the relegation zone,” he added.

Gunners have accumulated only seven points out of a possible 33, and this week, the club parted ways with seasoned coach, Phillimon Makwengwe. Motang will be encouraged by the fact that the team sits only three points from safety and with a good run, they could move out of the danger zone. The fixture between Gunners and Morupule Wanderers at the Lobatse Sports Complex tomorrow opens Motang's first chapter of the Houdini Act.

Motang will be hard-pressed to register Gunners' first win of the New Year, amid reports of a player exodus from the the Lobatse side. The new coach will attempt to motivate a side that managed just one point in eight matches under Makwengwe. Former caretaker coach, Phenyo Mongala is expected to return as Motang's assistant.

UB Hawks' Onkarabile Ntshimane is also expected to join, with talks between the two clubs ongoing for his services.
