The two were part of a gang which allegedly raped three women on November 12, 2022 at Tawana wards. Letlhakane police station commander, Michael Maphephu said they have arrested two males aged between 20 and 21 years in connection with three rape cases.

He further said they managed to detain only two suspects over the weekend whilst the other is still on the run. He said the suspects have been on the run since November 12.

Maphephu indicated that the suspects were wanted for allegedly sexually assaulting three women in Tawana yard. It is alleged that the incidents took place at night whilst the trio victims were all in a jovial festive mood. The trio females were attacked by the suspects on their way home from a local bar. “It was reported that the trio suspects allegedly hid behind the hedge in one of the passages in Tawana ward. The trio suspects then dragged the victims to one of the suspects’ home, where they assaulted them,” he added.

He further said the suspects each allegedly dragged one victim for themselves. The Letlhakane police boss stated that they managed to arrest the two suspects with the help of the victims’ descriptions. “The duo suspects were arrested at a house belonging to one of the suspect’s in Tawana ward,” added Maphephu. He pleaded with the community to assist them with any information that would lead to the whereabouts of the third suspect. Letlhakane police registered 22 cases of rape between November and December 2022.

Breaking down the statistics, Maphephu said that they recorded eight and 14 cases of rape for the months of November and December respectively.
