Mdu Tha Party, a presenter at local prominent radio station, RB2 revealed to Showtime Monitor that Hop Nyts is a weekly event that was conceptualised back in 2021 when COVID-19 started to subside.

He explained that the Hop Nyts events create an environment where artists can get to share ideas on how they can grow, develop and uplift each other. “This is where we get to showcase our talent in the Hip Hop space, that includes rappers, singers, poetry, dance, turntablism, art, fashion and many more of the things that go in accordance with the Hip Hop culture,” he said in an interview.

Mdu Tha Party added the idea is to see the weekly event flourishing, growing and expanding to be better than before. He said the platform is a good spot for the Hip Hop community to always meet and support each other in everything they do, get to network and get collaborations.

Even with the event having started back in 2021, Mdu Tha Party expressed optimism that it will gradually grow as the Hip Hop community is also getting stronger with the years. Moreover, he stated that this is not only noticeable in Gaborone as they previously had artists from Gaborone only but that has since changed. He revealed they have already featured artists from other areas like Palapye, Selebi-Phikwe and Francistown.

In addition, he said they plan to have a tour that will enable them to reach other communities in the country and get to unearth more young creative talents in places that are normally overlooked. Mdu Tha Party noted that those who are interested in Hop Nyts or want to enjoy the scintillating performances from the weekly events can always pass by Notwane Lifestyle Club every Thursday as entrance is free.
