Miss Supranational is an annual international beauty pageant that is run by the World Beauty Association. Botswana is set to make her debut at this year’s 14th Miss Supranational International beauty pageant finale to be held in Poland around July.

This comes after a local creative establishment; Something Big was awarded a license franchise to organise and host the local pageant for the next five years. In an interview with Arts & Culture, Something Big spokesperson, Kaone Moremong said this scouting and auditions would take them on a countrywide tour from January 21 until February 18, 2023.

“We are doing a national tour for auditions and scouting. The auditions are going to start from the weekend of January 21 until February 18. Our auditions will be P250 and then the specific places where the auditions will be held will be announced soon,” said Moremong. She said the search for the 2023 contestants will involve scouting from the remotest places of the country so that they find the hidden gems.

She explained that the search is going to be done in two parts whereby they will conduct the normal auditioning while other contestants would be scouted. “There will be normal auditions where girls will showcase and be selected by our team.

On the scouting part, we will engage celebrities from the local area to assist us with scouting by looking for physically ladies they feel could qualify,” she explained. She further explained that the scouted ladies are exempted from paying the auditions fee. Candidates could register online or physically. Entry requirements include being a Motswana woman with a valid Omang, be between the ages of 18 and 30, be of height of 1.67m, never been married, should never have given birth and should never have been convicted of any crime.

Those who want to audition should submit proof of a project and project plan, full body and profile pictures and brief biography. According to the organisers, the candidates must have vibrant personalities, great humility, loyal to the brand, genuinely authentic, kind hearted, with strong aspirations, leadership traits and qualities, patient and dedicated to work hard for the country.

Moremong said prizes for Miss Supranational Botswana 2023 winners will be announced next week. She appealed for sponsorships and partnerships from the public and corporate society.

Miss Supranational is placed among the most prestigious beauty pageants in the world. The first edition of the pageant was held in Poland in 2009, where Ukraine was crowned the winner. It is said that the pageant started with a group of contestants from over 40 countries but the number has since doubled to more than 80 competitors from different continents.

South African beauty queen, Lalela Mswane was crowned the 13th Miss Supranational in 2022. She is the second in a row African titled holder to reign as Miss Supranational International.
