Man hangs himself for being denied access to girlfriend

The incident which has left Moroka village residents reeling in shock took place over the weekend when the man was found hanging from a tree.

Tshesebe police station commander, Mothusi Padi confirmed the incident to to Mmegi Online.

Padi said that they are investigating a case in which a 43-year-old man allegedly hanged himself from a tree over the weekend at Moroka village in Ntimane ward. He said the man allegedly took his life after a misunderstanding with his family and girlfriend. “The 43-year-old man was denied access to his girlfriend by some of her family members. He then started harassing the family members accusing them of denying him a chance to build a family by marrying his lover,” he added. Padi stated that after the misunderstanding, the girlfriend's family then opened a case of common nuisance with the police against the 43-year-old man. He added that upon arrival at home the man told his relatives that he was going to take his own life near the railway line. The matter was then reported to the police and when they followed his tracks, they found the man hanging from a tree, elaborated Padi.

Meanwhile, the concerned station commander urged members of the public to seek professional help when they are in trouble because taking one’s life is not a solution. He also said that committing suicide always burdens and brings pain to those left behind.
