Woman dies in a car crash along A1 road

The public transport bus was traveling from Orapa to Gaborone when the accident occurred around 2pm in the outskirts of Palapye. Palapye Station commander, Superintendent Molly Lebala- Moduke said the deceased was trying to cross A1 road to Lemone lands with her 29-year-old daughter and her three-year- old granddaughter when their car was hit by a speeding public transport bus that was overtaking.

"The deceased was rushed to Palapye hospital where she was certified dead on arrival by the doctors. Her daughter sustained minor injuries, while her granddaughter escaped uninjured. However, all of the passengers in a 65 seater bus escaped uninjured," she said.

Lebala-Moduke further revealed that this is the second fatal accident recorded during the festive season after recording the first fatal accident on December 24 2022 around 0400hrs along A1 road in which a 22-year-old man was hit by a car and died along A1 road when trying to cross the road near Lemone lands. She stated that the driver, a 35-year-old man is currently in police custody helping the police with investigations.

Furthermore, she pleaded with motorists to obey road signs at all times, and not to drive over the recommended speed limit. She also said that motorists should not drink and drive.
