Merry Christmas! From The Monitor team with love

The air starts to change when the calendar hits December 1, many people get excited and start to ready themselves for the big feasts that come with the two holidays.

While there is absolutely nothing wrong with celebrating the holidays, we at The Monitor implore you to enjoy yourselves responsibly. We value you as our readers and most importantly your country needs you! The sad reality is that the festive season comes with a lot of travel, which unfortunately increases the likelihood of fatal road accidents.

Even more of concern, these fatal accidents mostly affect young people who are still in their most productive years and at times it can affect productivity as companies may be forced to replace experienced workers with less experienced ones who still needed their mentorship. Let us make sure that we take care of ourselves during this festive season.

There are many ways to have fun without putting your life and other people’s lives in danger. The Department of Road, Transport and Safety has for years launched different campaigns aimed at trying to deter us from getting behind the wheel after having one too many alcoholic beverages, but unfortunately, some amongst us think driving under the influence of alcohol is harmless. Those people need a serious reality check: there is nothing cool or fashionable about driving under the influence of alcohol.

Instead, it is very reckless. Just remember when you decide to drive a car while alcohol has reduced your ability to make sound judgement in maintaining a good distance while moving along with other cars, you are not only putting your life in danger but also the lives of other road users! Christmas time serves as a time for reunions for most families.

This is the time that relatives get a chance to spend the little time they have with one another after a long period of not seeing each other. Most families usually prepare a feast and slaughter either a beast, small livestock such as goats and sheep. It is a time to celebrate and reflect on what we have accomplished and where we believe we went wrong and take all the year’s lessons and prepare for the next one.

The Monitor team wishes you a very Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year filled with joy, happiness, and success. We thank you for your continued support throughout the year and look forward to serving you in the coming year. Meanwhile, please feel free to give us feedback, so that we can make your experience with us more informative and enjoyable!
