Unskillful social club goes on a charity drive

With social football clubs popularly known for providing a platform for people to have fun especially on Sundays, Ditshegwane-based Unskillful Social Club is on a mission to bring dignity to residents of Kweneng West.
Over the weekend, the club organised a football tournament to raise funds for connection of stand pipes for two residents of Ditshegwane. Unskillful had invited Kobokwe Masters, Western Masters and Dikopanye Social Club for the tournament.
Speaking to Sport Monitor, Unskillful president, Leungo Gasemodimo said the aim of the tournament was to raise funds for the connection of stand pipes in the homesteads of Obert Keaweditse and Seleseng Keiletswe.
“The one-day charity tournament was also used to spread the messages on men’s health by Western Masters. We are going to use the proceeds from the tournament for this project. Unskillful was established in 2018 and since then this is the second charity event that we have done. In our first project, we donated clothes to underprivileged children in our area. We still invited other clubs for a charity tournament,” he said.
Gasemodimo said they get names of beneficiaries from social workers in the village because they have the database. He also said Kweneng West is hard hit by poverty hence they found it fit to lend a helping hand. He said poverty prevalence in Kweneng West is at 50%.
When asked what makes Unskillful Social Club unique from other social clubs, Gasemodimo said it is common knowledge that social clubs are places where people meet to have fun and admitted that they also socialise, play football for fitness but they focus a lot in charity work. He said the next charity event will be in another village in the district. Gasemodimo said they will also support other social clubs when they have charity events in other areas of the country.
Meanwhile, Ditshegwane Kgosi, Selelo Kelebang said he was impressed with the work that Unskillful is doing for his people. He said the club brings dignity to the disadvantaged members of the community and that is something to be grateful for.
“It is not the first time that this club has done charity work in our village and we still expect more from them. Having a one day charity tournament might seem like a small event but it touches a lot of lives. On the day, residents came in large numbers to watch football including the youth who could be out there doing whatever they want,” he said.
Kelebang also said members of Unskillful Social Club are role models in the village and others should emulate them. He said charity work is also embraced by the government.
