Confirming the case, No 2 District Officer Commanding, Senior Superintendent Paul Oketsang said the 42-year-old woman of Mhatshwa ward was roused from sleep in an attack and raped by a known 30-year-old man who is currently in police custody.

“Whilst the victim was asleep, the intruder used the window to gain entrance into the victim’s bedroom and demanded sex. Cases where women are attacked and raped whilst in their sleep are on the rise in Serowe and are a cause for concern,” Oketsang said. “Women are no longer free even in the comfort of their homes due to rapists causing havoc.

I plead with men to respect women and stop these awful acts.” Oketsang further encouraged women to be cautious at all times, make sure that they close and lock their doors, and tighten their windows before going to bed because rapists are out on the prowl in Serowe.
