COFC takes sex abuse victims to therapy

Radisigo was addressing a virtual full council session on Monday at Francistown Civic Centre.
Giving an update on social welfare, the city mayor, Godisang Radisigo said that the council together with other departments and stakeholders continues to provide support to vulnerable members of society, especially women, people living with disability, and children.
He said that as part of supporting the affected, they took victims of sexual abuse and their parents for therapy at Art and Mark Camp in Motlhabaneng village. “Eight minor victims of sexual abuse went into intense therapy for a week which was held from September 18 to 23,” added Godisang.
On a different note, he said that the annual orphan and vulnerable children retreat has not been conducted since 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, he indicated that this year the social department managed to conduct a 12-day grief therapy session.
The grief therapy was also held at Art and Mark from October 31 to November 11, followed by graduation which was held at Moselewapula Cultural Village on November 11. Radisigo also highlighted that they commemorated the International Day of Persons Living With Disability under the theme ‘Transformative Solutions For Inclusive Development: The Role Of Innovation In Fuelling An Accessible And Equitable World'. “Our vision is to be a city of equal opportunities and access for all. Going forward we will ensure that we sustain and grow intervention geared towards assisting the vulnerable members of their community,” he said.
