The incident follows just a day after the Minister of Defence and Security Kagiso Mmusi announced in a media briefing that CIT heists have been replaced by ATM blastings.

Police confirmed the deaths from yesterday's crossfire at Sefalana Cash and Carry in Gaborone West Industrial site where the trio allegedly robbed a CIT vehicle of an undisclosed cash amount and a cellphone.

"The police swiftly responded to the report and the exchange of fire ensued leading to the death of the trio and the bystanders. A pistol loaded with 11 rounds of ammunition, cash amounting to over P649,000, and other stolen items were recovered," police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Dipheko Motube said in a media release.

Motube further stated that police impounded a Toyota RunX found to bear false registration numbers suspected to have been used for the commission of the crime.
