The deceased who was at the back of a backie was heading to South Africa from Zimbabwe with four others who were on board in the same vehicle but seating at the front. Confirming to be investigating the incident, No 2 Police District officer commanding, Senior Superintendent Paul Oketsang said informed by their investigations they have since ruled out foul play.

“The deceased was found by people who were driving to the north lying on the road lifeless with head injuries and reported the matter to other police who then rushed to the crime scene. On arrival at Sese Veterinary gate heading to Serule clinic police found the deceased’s companion at the gate and to have informed the police and opened a case of a missing person after they established that the canopy of their vehicle was open while driving and their mate was nowhere to be found,” Oketsang said.

He stated that the deceased was rushed to Serule clinic and later referred to Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital where he succumbed to the injuries few hours later. Oketsang said his companions all from Nyele village in the outskirts of Plumtree, Zimbabwe said the deceased was entertaining himself on the way drinking alcohol hence suspecting he might have jumped from the car mistakenly.

“We have since located his family members and notified them about the incident. We do not know if he jumped off the car deliberately or it was a mistake,” he said.
