Goitsemang White, the suspect formerly on the run, appeared before court for the murder of Oboeletse Dikoloi, the mother of his 14 children. He was denied bail at his appearance and will remain in custody until his next appearance on November 28 when the state will be called upon to update the court on the status of the investigations. A post-mortem is yet to be conducted on the deceased.

The murder incident, which was reported by the suspect’s nephew, took place in the wee hours of Saturday morning.

Nata Police Station commander, Mokopi Nawa said that the suspect was nabbed recently on the outskirts of Nata village.

He said that they managed to trace the suspect after his tracks showed he left his yard in Maposa ward heading into the wilderness near Nata village.

He added: “We suspect that the 50-year-old went back to the same house after the gruesome incident. He allegedly sneaked back at night and went back into hiding in the morning. There were traces of him all over the place the following day after the incident.”

Nawa elaborated that they traced the suspect in the wilderness where he had been in hiding.

White faces a murder charge for cutting Dikoloi's throat with a sharp object following an argument.

In a previous interview with sister publication, The Monitor, the Nata police boss said the statement issued by White’s nephew points out that he fled the crime scene, went straight to him (nephew), and confessed to murdering his 38-year-old girlfriend.

It was reported that, upon arrival at the nephew's, the suspect confessed to having killed his girlfriend after a heated argument.

“After confessing to his nephew, the suspect was nowhere to be found. The nephew then called the police to report the matter. The woman's body was found lying lifeless in a pool of blood. The crime scene points out that the couple fought before the gruesome action by the suspect as everything in the surrounding was a mess,” Nawa had said.

It is still not clear why the couple had a heated argument. Police investigations continue.
