The music event dubbed Black Coffee In Botswana announcement was met with some excitement as local patrons were given a chance to witness the iconic DJ and producer live on stage in ‘BW’. In a week running into event, the show faced some uncertainties due to the heavy rain flows that occurred across the country in the past week.

However, just after 9pm on Saturday, the Royal Aria Convention Centre was filled to capacity. The centre was an 11th hour ‘Plan B’ due to concerns over the Royal Aria Stadium, the initial venue because of the rains.

DJ Themba was on the stage at the time. His set was not the heaviest of the night as the Deep and Soul house were the highlights. The hour long play set the mood in the right tone for revellers. Next up was DJ Fresh. He had brought a mini band comprising of a drummer, guitarist and keyboardist. The whole setup proved to be a remedy to a good set by the celebrated DJ.

The sounds gelled well with the performance by the band and DJ Fresh had a performance to remember. The older revellers on the night would kill to have another dose of DJ Kent.

The DJ and producer took the hall down memory lane with some ‘old school’ Afro-House classics. His sound centred around the early 2000s and 2010s music and DJ Kent proved why he is a legend of the game.

It was just around 30 minutes after midnight when the event MC readied the crowd for the main act, Black Coffee. The crowd halted everything and glared to the stage, each trying to catch a glimpse of the man of the hour. He waved to the crowd as he approached the decks and a mini second later, the DJ was down to business. Accompanied by a drummer, Black Coffee won the crowd with number of ‘sing-alongs’ at the start of the set.

At time, the revellers were sold, Black Coffee channelled everyone with their love for the genre with songs from himself, some of the local producers and popular remixes. It was a struggle to stand still as the music channelled into the rather lively crowd. Songs from Black Coffee’s Pieces of Me album proved to be favourites.

The iconic DJ left the crowd eating from their palms with a number of old songs as he shut down the two-hour long performance. It was a wait worthwhile as Black Coffee seemingly enjoyed his time on the stage. There were also performances from Han C, DJ PH and Shawn Lee amongst others.
