Saleshando takes swipe at Motshegwa, UDC

Various speakers at a joint rally of the BCP and Alliance for Progressives (AP) held in Molepolole over the weekend slammed the UDC for poor governance. BCP president, Dumelang Saleshando took a swipe at the newly elected Botswana National Front secretary-general, Ketlhalefile Motshegwa.
On Friday, a three Court of Appeal (CoA) justice bench ruled that Motshegwa’s employment contract as secretary-general of BLLAHWU be declared unlawful, nullified and terminated.
The union’s first vice president, Nicholas Mothelesi and treasurer-general, Baone Seloka had dragged BLLAHWU, Motshegwa and BLLAHWU president, Thatayaone Kesebonye to court, seeking the order. While they had lost the first round at the High Court, which ruled that his appointment was in order in 2021, the duo moved to appeal.
The union has since rendered the judgement just an academic decision stating that Motshegwa will stay put at the helm until the end of his contract as the court’s decision has been overtaken by events. “Just last week three judges made a determination in a case involving one secretary-general of one of the parties in Botswana.
They state that he has gone against the constitution of a union not once, not twice, not even three times. He found it fit to make himself secretary-general while not a member.
The judges expressed shock at what he did. He did not even qualify to become a member of the union but he did it anyway. When people wanted elections, he decided otherwise and made decisions on his own.
This will only make you wonder what would happen if he came face-to-face with a phenomenon known as good governance. It would be like a Russia vs Ukraine war,” he said to the laughter of his audience.
Saleshando said he was happy that it could never be a BCP or AP member being involved in such acts.
