The call follows an accident that recently occurred between Mosolotshane and Moiyabana villages in which two donkey carts were involved in an accident with a Toyota Vitz at around midnight along the Lephephe-Serowe road.

Serowe Police Station Commander, Superintendent Poloko Oteng raised the concern. Oteng told The Monitor that a majority of donkey carts lack basic safety features such as reflectors and lights making it difficult to be visible at night hence posing a serious risk to the owners and motorists. “We do not know what caused the accident but luckily there were no fatalities.

Both donkey carts had teenagers on board, two 16-year-olds, a 17-year-old, and a 12-year-old who were only complaining of body pains. Donkey cart users just like motorists are expected to obey road safety rules in order to curb road accidents,” Oteng said.
