WASBO is an entity that was formed back in 1997 with a mandate to help increase women and girls' participation in sports and recreational activities.

Sexual harassment and GBV has been a concern all over the world hence WASBO saw the need to come up with the sexual harassment and GBV policy.

Dr Shikka Trivedi, who is the vice chairperson of WASBO, revealed that the policy will affect the sports fraternity.

“The sporting fraternity, all the stakeholders who are directly or indirectly linked to the sports in Botswana, this policy applies to them,” she said. The policy will be looking to ensure that sports people's rights are not violated and taken advantage of.

It will also act as a tool to combat sexual violation and GBV in sports. The necessary action will be taken against all those that are found guilty by the committee members and will face repercussions like imprisonment.

WASBO also reviewed its strategic foundations and its new vision statement is “Optimal participation of the girl-child and women in sport” while their new mission statement is, “Closing the gap to gender equity in sport”.
