The event organizer Seabelo Modibe announced that for the first time on home soil, the Women in Music Conference will form part of the week long festivities.

The Women in Music Conference will feature prolific speakers such as Warner Music Africa’s CEO, Temi Adenji, Director of distribution at the Orchard, Mpumi Phillips, local songbird Mpho Sebina, female DJ Jam-Ni and Mmegi Online Editor, Sharon Mathala.

“The Women in Music conference Botswana chapter will be in partnership with Women in Music South Africa, which is a chapter under the women in music business international. The plan is to set up a charter in Botswana and also bring in prolific speakers internally as well as locally,” Modibe said.

He added that the event will also feature a music showcase featuring female artists from around the country.

Modibe also said following an overwhelming and record breaking entries to this year’s Botswana Musicians Union (BOMU) awards XI, nominees will be announced on November 3.

The nominees launch will be hosted in Gaborone at a venue yet to be announced.

He stated soon after the nominees announcement voting will commence until a day before the main event which falls at the end of the week long BMEW.

Modibe said judging started on October 25 and expects the judges to be done with nominations on November 2.

“We are honestly impressed with the turn out this year and interest from the artists. We are confident that this year’s awards will bring out the best talent Botswana has to offer,” Modibe added.

Meanwhile, Modibe said this year’s BOMU awards have been moved to a new venue; the Gaborone International Convention Centre (GICC) at the Grand Palm Hotel due to overwhelming interest.

“The Grand Palm and BOMU partnership will offer patrons who will be staying in the hotel a one stop experience. Our patrons will be able to attend the week-long events and the awards after party in close proximity,” said Modibe.

Still on the BOMU awards, Modibe said they have made ticket packages suitable for every pocket. According to him, different packages are already on sale at P200 for normal tickets, P1200 VIP whilst an unforgettable VVIP experience is priced for P5500.
