Congratulations Miss Botswana 2022–23

Contests are not as easy as many people think. Those who decide to contest have to be mentally prepared; a fun yet emotionally taxing ride! In every competition, there has to be a winner and in the end, it is Lesego Chombo who was picked as the fairest of them all.

Congratulations are in order to our new queen and we are behind you 100%. Congratulations are also in order for the two princesses: Tshepo Nthaga (first princess) and Sebaga Manyapetsa (second princess).

You did well ladies! Your journey continues as now you will be preparing for the Miss World stage where you will compete with queens from different countries. We have put our faith in you as a country to bring the Miss World crown back home, but do enjoy yourself while at it. To the other young women who didn’t make it to the top three, you are also winners in your own right.

The thing about competitions is that at the end of it all a winner has to be picked, but for all the ladies to have made it to the final shows a lot of strength. Pageants are not child’s play, while most of the time contestants get positive comments from their supporters and the general public, there will be sadists who seem to get a lot of satisfaction by putting others down, and sadly especially pageantry contestants have always had to endure such.

Alipo Mokasha, Cheche Tsayang, Cynthia Kalayakgosi, Goitsemodimo Jogwe, Gontlafetse Oagile, Lesego Sejai, and Lorato Kgangyapelo, a round of applause to you for making it to the Top 10 which is also a big achievement. You sacrificed a lot of your time to realise your dreams, but do not in any way let not winning this time dissuade you from your dreams or make you feel like a failure! This is the beginning.

Take lessons from this session and use them to better your skills. The world is your oyster and you can achieve anything you put your mind to. You are strong women hence you were able to stand the test of time, brushing off criticism from haters, and accepting not being the ultimate winners with pride! You too are the winners.

A big round of applause to the organisers of Miss Botswana, but in future please treat the finale of Miss Botswana with the respect it deserves. How does a big pageant such as this one, fail to attract coverage from Botswana Television or at least get into partnerships with media companies for professional live streaming? The finale looked like a rushed event, which was organised in a big hurry! Let's pull up our socks, if we are still treating our Miss Botswana finale as if it’s a primary school beauty pageant, we have a long way to go!
