The BFCA is an establishment that looks after the interests and welfare of football coaches practicing in Botswana.

BCFA technical director, Kaelo ‘Wire’ Kaelo has said the association is looking to improve the livelihood of coaches with the proposal of introducing a minimum wage.

Kaelo was speaking on Saturday in a wide range interview on the Enole Sports Show on Botswana Television. “One of the things that we are looking at is the introduction of minimum wage for the coaches practicing in the local league.

This is one of the issues that trouble us as the association. We are having coaches who are well educated professionals with qualifications and we believe that is high time the profession gets recognised,” Kaelo said.

Speaking to Monitor Sport yesterday, the Security Systems gaffer said the BFCA was having a meeting and more details would be revealed. “It is an idea that we have, we are currently having a meeting and the issue is one of the topics we are discussing.

Like I said, it is an idea that we need to sit down and see how best we can propose it,” he said. The football coaching job in Botswana is one of the most unstable jobs.

Monitor Sport understands that an average monthly salary of football coach in the elite league stands at around P10,000. Kaelo further said apart from the wages, the association bemoans lack of coaching education on local shores. “We want our coaches to be given the right education. We are not blessed with having a lot of these coaching courses for a while now.

I am happy that on Monday, the CAF A coaching license class will be resuming. It was disturbed by COVID-19 but we are now resuming on Monday. It is a good thing. We need our coaches to be educated so that we saturate our local market and also for our coaches to be able to find a job anywhere in the world by having the right qualifications,” Kaelo said.
