The organisers of Miss Botswana revealed this at the new crown launch and press conference held in Gaborone Tuesday.

Miss Botswana executive producer, Benjamin Raletsatsi explained that this was part of their plan to improve the standard and stature of the Miss Botswana finale.

Raletsatsti stated that they are bound to maintain the standards that have been set by outgoing Miss Botswana 2021 queen, Palesa Molefe.

MmaMpale, as Palesa was affectionately called, had created much enthusiasm and raised expectations when she competed at Miss World last year.

“Palesa set the standards so high that we are now under pressure to surpass them. We are pushed to do better and exceed the bar she has set,” Raletsatsi said. Meanwhile, the organisers also launched the pageant’s new crown to be worn by the new Miss Botswana 2022 queen on Saturday.

Raletsatsi said they wanted to have a locally produced crown that resembles the standards of Miss Botswana. He said Botswana is a diamond-led economy; as such the new crown is made of locally manufactured diamonds.

“Miss Botswana is an all-encompassing story of the beauty industry. Botswana has [some of] the most beautiful and intelligent women in the world. It has the most expensive diamonds in the world, so if you put those two together then we have the most beautiful. This has to be a Botswana story hence we are launching the new Miss Botswana crown,” said Raletsatsi.

He said the launch of the new locally produced crown bears testimony to the growth that Miss Botswana has gone through.

The new crown pays tribute and endeavours to preserve Botswana's traditional heritage. It was designed by La Calla and manufactured by KGK diamonds.
